
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer who toured for more than 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her sultry, languid contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 until 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River" that she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to her recording, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's career as an actor of 35 years began with film in 1944. It included parts in the lead female in numerous westerns. In the mid-50s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. Her final studio album in 1969 however, she was able to continue to make a name for herself as the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), where she was co-starring with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
