Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. She created Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities that are excluded. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has spoken at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a university student she became interested in the issues surrounding gender equality and the rights of women from a young age. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based series that examined the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit investigates women's representation in contemporary pop culture.
